Cut Dairy – Cure Acne??

I never broke out through adolescence but those pesky red blemishes popped up all over my face (and back -gross) when I started college. This was also when I started working skincare sales at Sephora, so it was a double whammy to be selling skincare for clear skin when I was humiliated with my face. I understand the shame and withdrawal it can cause. I tried every skincare available before I realized I had to change my diet in order to restore an alkaline pH balance from within as well.

Reducing the acidity of my diet through a plant based diet has thankfully left my acne back in my college days. My heart goes out to all the beautiful ladies and gentlemen I see suffering from acne, so I had skin and beauty in mind when I developed the Evolution 20– sixty day nutritional program.  I focused on a colorful, nutritious and alkaline plant-based diet that provides a gentle daily detox, restores hydration and a healthy pH balance. I made sure to cut high allergy foods, like dairy, that not only absorb your daily energy but have been found to cause acne.

If you too are suffering from consistent acne, take a look at your diet. Try cutting dairy and adding a green juice or chlorophyll drink once a day. Don’t believe me, check out this study from Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology (JAAD). It gives us one more reason to cut dairy out of our lives completely – when it comes to our skin, low-fat and nonfat dairy might be to blame.

The new study links skim milk with high incidences of acne in teens. In fact, the results show that teenage participants with acne consumed significantly higher quantities of low-fat and nonfat milk than those with clearer skinThese findings don’t exactly come as a shock to the skin health community. Earlier this year, nutritionist Brooke Alpert stated that when it comes to dairy, the worst offenders are “nonfat and low-fat versions.” NYC dermatologist Dr. Jeremy Fenton of Schweiger Dermatology Group agrees, saying that the study “further supports the data that has been coming out over the last five years or so, showing a link between acne and dairy, specifically nonfat milk.” Fenton says many have suspected the correlation may be due to the “hormonal impact of the nonfat dairy.” Thus, it might be worth ordering your latté with almond milk next time. Cutting dairy may not altogether cure acne but there are enough studies to show that it will help clear your skin.

One of the main testimonials we hear from Evolution 20, other than toning up and losing weight, is an improvement in acne. If you are not sure where to start on a new plant-based lifestyle (I was there) then this is completely laid out and all the recipes are simple to prepare. This type of diet also boosts over-all energy (important to me since I deal with Hypo-thyroid), boosts metabolism and promotes performance. Give it a try and let me know what you thing!
