Strict, short term detoxes get a lot of media buzz and that’s because they are by nature unique and sensational. I do believe that some of these detoxes can be thoroughly valuable, but today I want to talk about detoxing daily.
Now that you’ve eliminated sugar from your diet it’s the perfect time to add in some beneficial DETOXING superfoods and supplements. Why detox? The World Health Organization has said that 80% of cancer is due to toxicity. Toxins actually turn on your DNA in a way that produces cancer cells and bring on a whole gamut of diseases and disorders from diabetes to brain disease).
What if I were to give you a list of not-ridiculously-expensive, incredibly-easily-to-find superfoods and supplements that will take you 2 minutes a day to take and will actually add years to your life and life to your years? Would you take them? Let’s find out. Check out my list below.
Milk thistle: Take 250 to 500 milligrams daily to support liver detox (Your liver really is responsible for helping your body to eliminate all environmental toxins). Milk thistle is also proven to aid in detox from radiation and chemotherapy and any toxic medications that you have taken in the past.
Probiotics: Your number one source of probiotics should be from food (dairy kefir, sauerkraut, kombucha are a few options here). Also take a good quality supplement that has both soil based and food based probiotic. Probiotics line your digestive system and help to detoxify your colon, they also help you produce detoxifying minerals and vitamins (specifically vitamin K2 and vitamin B12). 80% of your immune system is located in your gut, so improving your gut health is crucial.
Turmeric: Turmeric is widely used in Asia and India and it contains the active compound Circumin which does a lot to protect your body against free radical damage. Toxins that come into your body do damage by causing your cells to oxidize or become cancerous – turmeric prevents that. Read more about Turmeric here.
Seaweed or algae specifically Chlorella: Chlorella binds to heavy metals in our bodies (we all get these from canned foods, lead based paint exposure and radiation from airplanes, cell phones, etc.) Choose a green super food powder or buy a green super food supplement that has chlorella in it along with other alkalizing herbs and other super algae like spirulina.
Apple Cider Vinegar: This well-known detoxifier works because it has acetic acid to support growth of probiotics and digestive enzymes to support liver detox. Apple Cider Vinegar is great for stomach and intestine detox. Plus, it speeds metabolism, boosts energy, lowers cholesterol and lowers blood sugar. Drink 1-2 tablespoons about 10 minutes before meal time.
Cilantro: Cilantro contains what are called volatile oils, also known as essential oils, which aid in detoxing your body from heavy metals like mercury, arsenic, and lead.
Cayenne Pepper: Just a pinch of cayenne pepper goes a long way. This potent spice detoxes the circulatory system by opening up you arteries and blood vessels and increasing circulation. It supports lymphatic drainage and is a cancer fighter. It also burns fat and lowers high blood pressure.
