This week I have the great pleasure of interviewing Lorna Jane Clarkson for Woman Crush Wednesday! Lorna is the incredible woman behind international apparel brand, Lorna Jane Active! Not only has Lorna built an amazing and growing career in two of my favorite fields (fitness and fashion), but she is truly a wonderful woman. Read on to find out what motivates Lorna and how she does it all day in and day out!

Introduce Yourself: Lorna Jane Clarkson, Active Living advocate and the Founder and Creative Chief Officer at Lorna Jane Activewear.

Why did you create Lorna Jane Active: I started designing activewear because I simply wanted to inspire women to be active. I have been fit and healthy for as long as I can remember, living my life according to my Active Living philosophy, and I know firsthand just how great it makes you feel and how it can inadvertently improve every other aspect of your life as well.

It is my heart to inspire as many women as possible from around the globe to live their best active life through this philosophy. Understanding that fashion inspires women and that when women wear activewear they will be MORE active, I believe that it’s important that women have access to  workout wear that they actually are excited to wear.

It is this thinking that inspired the inception of the Lorna Jane brand 26 years ago. Through Lorna Jane I have endeavored to produce activewear that creates a sense of energy and vitality—clothes that not only make women look and feel good, but that inspire and empower women to be more active. Today there are now 150 stores in Australia, 42 in the United States and stockists in 50 countries, which is just incredible!

What is one sentence of advice that you would give to a young lady starting out in your field: Be your authentic self and only do what you truly LOVE. I think it’s important to be real, to be honest and to be true to your personal philosophies. It is the only way that you can do your best work and reach your true potential in business and in life.

What does your weekly workout schedule look like: For me it’s a combination of strength training, yoga and cardio. The strength training shapes my body, the yoga keeps me flexible and the cardio keeps me fit. In a typical week, I do two days of strength training, three days of yoga and two or three days of cardio.

What are your favorite healthy foods? To choose a few favorite healthy foods is next to impossible. However, I will say that I always keep my fridge stocked with loads of fresh fruit, vegetables and lean protein. My ‘go-to’ items tend to include blueberries, spinach and broccoli (my two favorite leafy greens), free-range, organic chicken breast and free-range, cruelty free, organic eggs. You’ll also always find a pitcher of lemon water front and center at all times.

Please share a favorite natural beauty remedy: I love what I refer to as my ‘Exfoliating Breakfast Mask.’ For a luminous glow, I combine 1 TBSP Greek Yogurt, ¼ of a mashed banana and 1 TBSP of raw honey into a bowl. I then apply the mixture to my face for about 15-20 minutes. Once that time is up, I rinse my face with cool water and pat my face dry.

What is the first thing you do when you wake up: I am an early riser and I absolutely love using my mornings for a bit of ‘me time.’ I always stretch and spend some time thinking, exercise and shower. I then have a delicious, healthy breakfast and catch up on the news and any personal matters. Taking this time for myself clears my head and gives me more energy for the rest of the day.
