I have the opportunity to meet and work with strong, intelligent, motivated women every day. I am so inspired and motivated by them all! I have decided to take advantage of #WCW (Woman Crush Wednesday) to interview one of these lovely ladies each week. I hope you are as motivated by their humility and success as I am! 

This week it is my pleasure to introduce you to Katie Warner Johnson, founder of Carbon38. Carbon38.com is a killer online shopping site for ladies that share our love of fitness. The site offers an amazingly well-curated selection of fit fashion and workout-to-work pieces — it is an inspiration in itself! Read on to find out more about Katie.

Introduce yourself:

I am Katie Warner Johnson and I am co-founder and CEO of Carbon38

 

Why did you create Carbon38:

Caroline, my co-founder, and I are part of a generation of women who are entrepreneurs, executives, wives, mothers and who also prioritize health and fitness in an unprecedented way.  Instead of drinks and dinner we meet up for a SoulCycle class or hike.  Even business meetings are being replaced with joint yoga sessions.  We decided to create a seamless wardrobe that could help this new woman who “does it all” transition easily from work, to workout, to night out.  It had to be machine washable, comfortable, supportive and sexy – sounds like activewear to me!

 

What is one sentence of advice that you would give to a young lady starting out in your field:

“Find a way or make one.” That is my high school’s motto – pretty badass, no?  Those words have stood me in good stead on this adventure.  I think they are worth sharing.

 

What does your weekly workout schedule look like:

On a good week I hit up a reformer class at The Studio (MDR), jump around at Body By Simone, head out on my weekly trail run on Los Liones, sleep in one morning and get my om on the remaining three.  On a not so good week I practice shavasana under the covers six mornings, hit up Los Liones (the pull of the ocean is far greater than that of my pillow, thank goodness), and power walk on my COO’s treadmill during meetings.  Thank goodness I can wear spandex to work.

 

What are your favorite healthy foods:

Grilled salmon. EVERY restaurant serves it so I have no excuse to not get my fix of omega-3’s, DHA, vitamin D and lean protein.

Please share a favorite natural beauty remedy:

I read somewhere that it’s a good idea to put olive oil on your cuticles after you wash dishes.  So I started doing that, only I have the aerosol version from Trader Joe’s.  Not quite as chic as the image of Sophia Loren moisturizing her hands, while staring out her kitchen window, overlooking Lake Cuomo that accompanied the article from which I skimmed this trick, but whatever, it works.

 

What is the first thing you do when you wake up:

Make my bed.  One accomplished task leads to many others.
